Not much to report this month. its been our busy period with all our competitions so really working hard on presentation getting all our lines and cuts burt in, edging bunkers, strimming and fly mowing tee banks. Growth has slowed down a bit on the rough now this allowed us to clear a few messy areas, sandys bush, in between the 5th & 6th at the bottom of the slope. The 12th bank was strimmed in preparation for ladies invitation day. We also managed to re do the 12th path. we removed all the existing path material and stored it to the side. Dug down 250mm and filled the path with crushed concrete. Replaced any broken wooden edgings. Placed 3 drainage channels across the path, these channels have a sump hole in either end. We have dug a soak away at each end and filled them with 10mm shingle. The water theoretically will run into the drainage channels and into the sump holes and away stopping the path material from washing away, so far so good. Then we replaced the path material at 50mm thick, compacted it with a vibrating wacker plate. The excess path material was used on the 17th path to stop the stones from going onto the grass.
Now we are nearing our renovation week we will start to raise the height of cut on the greens so they cope with the work we are doing to them. They have been raised by 0.5mm already and will probably go up another 1mm. Then back down if all goes well after the work. We have another liquid feed to apply and a wetting agent. The liquid will give them a little boost. Because of the nature of sand being hydrophobic (which means to repel water) we need to apply a wetting agent which allows the soil to re wet and take up the water especially at the surface. We have a granular feed in stock incase we need a little extra boost. The recovery time should be similar to that of the sand injection graden. We plan to do a test run on the chipping greens next monday 14th so we and the members can see exactly what is involved and the recovery time.
We are intending to scarify the greens prior to hollow coring with out turf works units that fit onto our John Deere 2500B tee's and approach mower. These lines will be very sympathetic but will allow us to get more dressing and seed into the surface. We are aiming to go 5mm - 8mm into the surface. Below are some pictures of how the scarifying looks and the extra organic matter/thatch that can be removed.

Some recent pictures of the course
We managed to get another 5mm mini tine across the greens last week with another planned for next week.
Yet another tee marker has been smashed on the 14th tee. This will have to stay like this now for a while, while we wait for the new ones to arrive.
Thank you to everyone who filled in a questionnaire. They have all been discussed at the last greens meeting.
The worn area to the left of the 8th approach has had some holes put in it and seeded and top dressed.
The wet area to the left of the 12th fairway has been dug out and a soak away put in then top dressed and seeded. There is no leaking sprinkler here.
As usual if you have any questions that need answering please fill out the form to the right of the page.
For those who like their gadgets we are now members of My Pin Point. It allows you to see the daily pin positions on your hand held device. It is definitely available on IOS but i'm not sure about android. Download the app Mypinpoint. Pin positions go live as soon as we have finished changing the holes.
